What do rim markings mean and how can you read them? We are pleased to explain. The width of the rim is measured between the outer edges of the rim. The rim diameter is measured upright, between the heel seats of the rim.

Rim width

The width of the rim is measured between the outer edges of the rim.
 

Diameter of the rim

The rim diameter is measured upright, between the heel seats of the rim. This is the same as the inner diameter of the used tyre and is displayed in inches.
 

Outer lip

The outer lip of the rim helps to retain the shape of the tyre’s heel.
